Some people have asked me why the theme to this website looks so well awful. There are three distinct reasons for this.

1) Its “Good Enough”
2) We as developers are used to seeing pre-css’ed scripts
3) I wouldn’t want the amazing graphics I came up with to distract you from the content!

btw: the theme is meant to be a starting point for custom CSS I just never put anything in. I like it better this way.

    My 2 cents:
    About distractions – you could reduce your “footer” This entry was written by… to a much lesser text.
    Maybe use some icon for RSS.
    “but you can post a comment.” is not necessary.
    Share this: Captions for facebook, linkedin, … are not needed.

    I think my blog has a pretty minimal theme. I still think you should use something. I get you point about the content, its hard to read though!

    Ironically, I was inspired by your “themeless” blog. I’ve been wanting to write my own blogging platform for years (doesn’t everybody) but have always been hung up on how it would look. After encountering your blog I decided that if the mighty and powerful Greg Young could go themeless, so could I.

    I haven’t written a single class for it yet, and probably never will, but a least now I can’t use the excuse of not having a theme.

    body {
    max-width: 1200px; /* addresses readability issues on those big screens developers like to use. */
    font: 400 normal 13pt/1.4em Georgia, serif; /* increases leading and uses a font that’s better optimised for screens. */

    It actually looks great on my phone. Your mobile theme is great, leave it that way. 🙂

    I love that minimal style but I think that you should take readability into the consideration and follow Dan’s advices. Current font is really hard to read.

    I really believed the site is ‘broken’, either Opera has problems or the static files server is down. I was *this* close to press the back button to return ‘another day’ when it will work 🙂
